Our story began in 1974 when Lloyd and Chris Hubber founded the Hubbers family business. Lloyd’s journey in flooring started much earlier, in the 1950s, at Invercargill’s iconic H&J Smith department store. He later opened a carpet warehouse in Gore before relocating to Christchurch in 1965, where he launched a furniture and carpet business on Oxford Terrace. Hubbers soon became a household name in the city, with a store on Colombo Street and the flagship store at 295 Blenheim Road.

In 2004, Lloyd and Chris passed the reins to their daughter Karin, though Lloyd remained actively involved until 2011. Over the years, Hubbers has been shaped by a dedicated team—many of whom have 30 years or more experience. Their expertise is valued by both clients and suppliers, contributing to the strong relationships we’ve built within our community.

For over 50 years, Hubbers has evolved to stay on trend and relevant, and joining the Carpet Court and CurtainStudio family is the next chapter in our story. This partnership allows us to merge the trusted fabric and flooring ranges you know and love, while retaining the expertise and passion of our team.
